Irate Sono slams 'diving defender'

Defender Thato Lingwati bore the brunt of Jomo Sono's wrath after struggling Jomo Cosmos slumped to their third straight defeat in the Absa Premiership at Olen Park, Potchefstroom, on Sunday.

Sono was fuming after the 2-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, saying he warned the central defender not to slide-tackle or allow the ball to bounce in front of him as the last man in the Ezenkosi defence.

Sono's patience has worn out and he has said he will drop Lingwati from the starting line-up.

"What do you do when you have amateur defenders? For the second goal he is diving all over the place. He is the last man and he is diving. I can't keep on saying he is learning.

"There is no time for learning, we are in the Premier League," Sono said.

Asked if sending Lingwati to the stands would not kill the player's morale, Sono said: "No, we take him out. He is killing my morale. I have to rest him a little bit so that he can get his head right."

Ezenkosi are still searching for their first victory of the season and they have tough matches against Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City coming up next month.
