Ryno "The Lion" Liebenberg has threatened to maul Makhosandile Zwengu within three rounds in their 12-rounder for the vacant SA light- heavyweight belt at Emperors Palace on Saturday night.

"When you watch the Discovery Channel, you see people dive with sharks and crocodiles but you will never see them play with lions because they will be eaten alive.

"That is exactly what I am going to do to this guy," vowed Liebenberg yesterday.

Zwengu is a little-known journeyman from Uitenhage, who has only six wins against nine defeats. He last fought on December 14 last year when he knocked out unknown Lesley Hope in two rounds.

"I do not know this guy and I do not think he belongs in the same league with me. Unfortunately, BSA [Boxing South Africa] gave him a top rating and sadly I am going to send him straight into retirement," said the Colin Nathan-trained Liebenberg.

The fighter from Krugersdorp on the West Rand has chalked up 11 knockouts in 16 wins, against two losses.

Another tough boxer, 21-year-old Kazakhstan fighter Roman Zhailauov, will take on Thompson Mokwana in a non-title fight on the programme.

These bouts will form part of Golden Gloves' "Uncivil War" programme that will be headlined by the country's only dual world champion - Hekkie "Hexecutioner" Budler - who will put his WBA and IBO minimum weight belts on the line against Simphiwe "Chain Reaction" Khonco.

l Oscar Chauke was knocked down in the 10th round by Tshifhiwa Munyai in the UK on Sunday, but still kept his IBF Intercontinental featherweight title after the Manchester-based Munyai failed to make the weight, meaning the fight was no longer a title fight..
