Komphela gives thumbs-up for recruit Manqele

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Steve Komphela believes his team's new recruit, Edward Manqele, will produce goals in a stable environment at the Amakhosi.

Manqele has had fitness and form problems, and has not scored consistently for some time.

He made three starts for Chippa United this season, but did not score.

Komphela believes the new recruit has the attributes to score at the Soweto giants.

"He's a great runner off the ball. He's got a high level of technical ability in finishing. He's got a striker's instinct," the Chiefs coach said after his side beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

"Now, if maybe you were to ask me how he's going to fit into this Chiefs way of playing, he's likely to be a piece in it. But you can never say that until he's tried and tested, and then you can give feedback."

Manqele reunites with a coach under whom he scored 11 goals in 27 starts as a rookie striker at Free State Stars in the 2011-12 season.

The player was snapped up by Sundowns, where he struggled for regular game time and gained weight, eventually being loaned to Moroka Swallows.

Komphela said Manqele featured strongly in Chippa's 4-0 thrashing of Pretoria University last week, even though the striker did not score.
