Downs have time to stew over defeat

Mamelodi Sundowns' lack of games for the next three weeks means the taste of defeat against Mpumalanga Black Aces from Tuesday night will sit with them until they get a chance to redress it in their next fixture against Lamontville Golden Arrows on September 12, coach Pitso Mosimane said.

"The negative side [of the upcoming break for most Premier Soccer League clubs] is that you wish you can play again quickly and get a win. What is not nice is that we stay with the loss for all this time over the next weeks.

"But on the positive side, it is an opportunity for the players to recover from injuries"

Sundowns are in something of a mini goalkeeper crisis with only Kennedy Mweene fit. Although he was on the bench against his former club, Denis Onyango is suffering with a rib injury while Wayne Sandilands turned his ankle in pre-season training and Thela Ngobeni is also on the sidelines.

Tuesday's 1-0 loss at the Mbombela Stadium was frustrating for Mosimane: "It was a disappointing performance from us, especially when we were against 10 men and we had enough time to go and score. We didn't play well, let's be honest, we didn't deserve to win.

"We played a lot of long balls straight at their goalkeeper. We didn't play combination plays. We got too desperate, trying to come from one goal behind. Aces were stubborn and solid in their defence, they never gave us an opportunity to score."

Black Aces coach Muhsin Ertugral, meanwhile, does not want any expectations foisted on his players.

"I don't want to put any pressure on the boys. The next three months for us is a process where we consolidate what we are doing. We still have to learn that when we win the ball back in the midfield, we are making a lot of mistakes. We'll get it right in the future."
