Gavin Hunt says Bidvest Wits are still searching for a striker ahead of the new season and admits the club needs to start winning trophies after the investment made in the last few years.

Hunt is confident he will add to his forward line before the close of the transfer window at the end of next month , but says he is still assessing his options.

"We are looking to reinforce the striking department," he says.

He may also look to the youth structures by giving more game time to the highly talented 16-year-old Liam Jordan - that's if he doesn't make an anticipated move to Europe.

"We have a good crop of players, good experience and good youth as well. It is a good mix," Hunt says. "The players who came into the first team last year will play a big part again. Liam will play more this year if he doesn't go to Brondby."

Hunt has yet to win a trophy since moving from SuperSport United at the start of the 2013-2014 season, though he has had successive third-place finishes in the league and reached the 2014 Nedbank Cup final.

Wits start their season with a home game against SuperSport United in the MTN8 quarterfinals next Tuesday.

As well as the R8-million first prize, Hunt says victory is important to give him two more games to get his players to gel, which could provide a boost to their early-season league form.

"In the MTN8, to win the first game is important as you then get two semifinals guaranteed, which gives you time to gel your players and get the new season going."
