SuperSport United put an embarrassing showing from Friday behind them but gave away a late equaliser from a set piece as they drew 1-1 with host team Ajax Cape Town in the Cape Town Cup yesterday.

Thuso Phala's goal after 15 minutes was evidence of a much-improved game after a disastrous semifinal on Friday when they let in four goals in the first half of their match against English Premier League club Crystal Palace.

SuperSport were full value for their lead but then let it slip a minute into stoppage time at the end of the game when Ajax grabbed an equaliser through captain Travis Graham. He flicked on a free kick from Franklin Cale to equalise and leave both sides sharing the bronze medal honours in the four-team tournament.

Both PSL outfits made many changes through the game as they experimented with combinations and gave their players an opportunity to improve match fitness with MTN8 action in just 10 days' time for both.

SuperSport again fielded ex-Bafana Bafana captain Bongani Khumalo, who they are negotiating with for a return to the club after four years in Europe, while Ajax had Rheece Evans, who they hope to sign from Mamelodi Sundowns, on trial.

In the final, Crystal Palace lost 2-0 to Portugal side Sporting Lisbon.
