SuperSport off-load nine players

SuperSport United chief executive Stan Matthews says nine players are likely to leave the club to get game time elsewhere while he confirmed one-year contract extensions for Ronwen Williams and Clayton Daniels.

Bennett Chenene, Thabiso Nkoana, Prince Nxumalo, Thamsanqa Teyise, George Chigova and Michael Morton, who has attracted interest from Platinum Stars, are just some of the players on their way out of the club.

Nkoana scored five league goals while on loan to Ajax Cape Town, and Matthews said there are three clubs fighting for the striker.

"There's been interest for Thabiso. He has expressed his desire to move and we are going to grant him that. We obviously have to agree terms, but I can say for sure he will leave during this transfer window. We are also not going to keep players like Nxumalo, Chenene and Chigova," Matthews said.

He revealed Matsatsantsa made bids to sign Robert Ng'ambi from Dikwena and Bidvest Wits' right-back Siyabonga Nhlapo, but they were told both players are not for sale.

They also lost out in the race to sign former Free State Stars defender Daniel Cardoso, who joined Kaizer Chiefs.

"Platinum Stars made it very clear that Ng'ambi is not for sale. We also lost out on Cardoso and we lost out on Nhlapo. We made a generous offer for Nhlapo, but it was declined, so we move on."

Matthews explained why the club let winger Daine Klate join Wits, but is confident new Australian Isaka Cernak will shine.

"Of course, I regret because I wanted Klate. But unfortunately from a wage perspective his demands were very high. I was the one who called him to say he should take the contract from Wits because we could not afford that. But I think in young winger Cernak we have an exciting player."

Matthews confirmed Andile Fikizolo, who was on loan to Lamontville Golden Arrows, was in coach Gordon Igesund's plans.
