Khune could stay

Free-agent Itumeleng Khune vowed yesterday to find a club before the new season kicks off next month.

The goalkeeper, although mum about potential suitors, did not rule out returning to Kaizer Chiefs, who did not renew his contract after claiming that his demands were unreasonable.

Khune arrived back from Mauritius where he captained Bafana Bafana in their away African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier, but currently has no home after his deal with Amakhosi ended on June 30.

"I am healthy and I still have a lot to offer in this game. My future will definitely be sorted out before the new season," the 28-year-old said.

Despite having joined Chiefs when he was only 13, Khune suggested he had no regrets over how his negotiations with his boyhood club over a new contract were handled.

"That is football for you. It is part of the game and I guess I just have to be strong in the situation I am faced with right now. But something will come up in the next few weeks."

Asked whether he and his UK-based agent Daniel Lichman would consider fresh talks with Chiefs, Khune said: "I can't answer that but at the moment I will go back home, relax and start with some gym work the next day. I go there a lot so that whoever comes and asks for my services, I will be ready."

Lichman has previously denied claims from Chiefs that Khune made unreasonable salary demands, which included a request to own his image rights and to be paid bonuses for every clean sheet.

Lichman was also hardly present to discuss the renewal of Khune's contract, according to Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung. However, the goalkeeper said he was in regular contact with his agent to map out his future.
