Musona sees red

South African Tiya Shipalane continued his fine goal-scoring form in 2015 with another strike as US second-tier side Carolina Railhawks beat Minnesota United 3-1.

It was a fourth goal in 11 starts for the winger, who has been his team's top performer this year.

Right-back Ethen Sampson was again missing from the bench for top-tier side Vancouver Whitecaps as they lost 2-1 at Colorado Rapids.

Defensive midfielder Ayanda Nkili missed Orebro's 2-0 loss at Djurgarden in the Swedish top-flight through injury.

It was a blow lamented by coach Alexander Axen, who fell just short of saying it cost his side the match, which shows the high regard for Nkili at the club.

Meanwhile, in friendly action, Thulani Serero got his first minutes of pre-season when he played for Ajax Amsterdam in a 2-2 draw with Russian side Dynamo Moscow at the training base in Austria.

Serero played the second half of the game having announced his intention to stay with Ajax last week following speculation of a move to a bigger European league.

Andile Jali played an hour for Belgian side KV Oostende as they drew 2-2 with Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.

Jali is this year being coached by Yves Vanderhaeghe, who moved from Darren Keet's Kortrijk at the end of the last campaign.

The match was perhaps most notable for a red card for former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona, who was sent off three minutes before half time for a reckless tackle.

It is the Zimbabwean's second red since moving to Europe 12 months ago.

Daylon Claasen played the second half for German Bundesliga II side 1860 Munich as they beat Swiss champions Basel 2-1 in a friendly, while Anele Ngcongca's Belgian team Genk lost 1-0 against Russians Krylya Sovetov Samara.

Bafana Bafana midfielder Ayanda Patosi played the full game as Lokeren beat Lommel United 2-0.
