Vilakazi remains a Wits student, for now

Former Footballer of the Year Sibusiso Vilakazi is in light training again after recovering from injury as the speculation over his future continues to swirl.

But the much sought-after midfielder, who suffered an ankle injury towards the end of last season, looks likely to stay at Bidvest Wits for the foreseeable future.

The club's chief executive, Jose Ferreira, said yesterday that there had been "informal enquiries" about Vilakazi from overseas but nothing concrete.

A move to Europe remains the primary ambition for the 25-year-old, who was named the best player in the Premier Soccer League after the completion of the 2013-2014 season.

The Students have long promised him a chance to go and fulfil his ambition if the price is right, and he has had previous trials with Danish club Brondby.

"He is back in light training and is committed to Wits," added Ferreira, amid continuing reports over a possible move.

But the chances of a cross-PSL transfer remain slim, as Wits have already reportedly turned down Kaizer Chiefs, whose football manager Bobby Motaung has been actively pursuing Vilakazi for years now.

Wits are, however, considering new loan deals for players who returned from spells at other clubs this past season, like Ryan Chapman, Jomo Gumede and Erwin Isaacs.

"There has been a lot of interest from the other clubs about some of these players but whether this translates into anything substantive remains to be seen," added Ferreira.
