Khune, one of the highest paid players: Motaung

Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung believes AmaKhosi and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng “Spider Kid ”Khune was the highest paid players in the league season two years ago".

Khune was reportedly earning a total of R325 000 a month, which amounts to R3.9million a year in the 2014/15 season.

The negotiations with the club allegedly failed after demanding over 100% increase from R325k to R700 000 a month which would be over R8million a year.

He was reportedly offered R800 000 by Chiefs rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

Motaung said that they would not be held at ransom by any player and also said that Khune's behaviour during the negotiations period "became disrespectful" and that it seemed as if he was dictating to the club.

“The issue with Itu is that we were dealing with an agent who is not even in the country, over the phone, via email,” said Motaung.

"We understand that life should go and people should be free to move on."

Mzimasi Gebisa from the SABC sport asked Motaung if he has had any kind of communication with Khune recently as a 'father figure' but the chairman said that he has not spoken to him in the last six months.
