Chiefs refute claims of spat between Itu and Bobby

Kaizer Chiefs yesterday refuted claims of a spat between the side's manager Bobby Motaung and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune during last Wednesday's league match against Polokwane City.

That was the game that saw Amakhosi crowned the league champions.

Chiefs stressed that at no stage was there a discussion between Motaung and Khune about the goalkeeper not being allowed to enter the pitch to join the championship-winning side.

"I didn't even speak to Itu on the day," reacted Motaung on the club's website about the allegations that there was a heated exchange between the two.

"The words in the newspapers are not authentic," he said.

Khune was also shocked to see the newspaper reports.

"Those stories are not true. Besides that, I was sitting with the other players in the Super Suite while Bobby was in the Presidential Suite," he said.

Chiefs also reiterated that contract negotiations between players and clubs can sometimes take time.

We have informed the media on numerous occasions on the progress of the various talks.

"For example, we recently extended the contracts for Siphiwe Tshabalala and Brilliant Khuzwayo. Other contracts, however, can take longer.

"We started the negotiations with Khune and [Tefo] Mashamaite already last year. To conclude a deal, it takes two to tango.

"Some negotiations can be quickly done, while others take longer. The talks with both players are ongoing.

"The club will give an update on contract negotiations when there is news available," he said.
