Dad ate Pacquiao’s dog: Trainer

The well decorated world champion boxer Manny Pacquiao ran away from home to live on the streets at the age of 12 after discovering that his father had turned the house pet into a meal.

Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach told the independent.co.uk: "Times were so hard for poverty-stricken Pacquiao family in the Philippines that his father cooked the dog for food.

The punch master, was devastated by the incident which drove him to live on the streets just before he become a professional fighter just at the tender age of 14.

"Manny ran away from home after his father ate his dog," veteran trainer Roach quoted saying on independent.co.uk news website.

"He lived on the street, where he bought doughnuts at a doughnut store and then sold each one for a nickel more to survive."

The 32 year old Pacquiao is the current WBO welterweight champion and ranked number three on The Ring pound-for-pound list.
