Mokotjo, Serero could be sold

The chances of Kamohelo Mokotjo leaving Dutch club FC Twente appear to be growing stronger, with one club adviser saying he should never have been bought in the first place.

His performances on the pitch have certainly merited the move from PEC Zwolle - he has been one of Twente's few shining lights in this most dismal of seasons.

But there have been suggestions for weeks now that the Bafana Bafana midfielder will form part of a fire-sale that is hoped will ease the financial burden that has already seen the club docked six points this season for failing to meet certain financial targets.

Arjan Hoop, a financial adviser to Twente, said the club's board lied about the extent to which they could spend on new players at the start of the season, which resulted in their current dilemma.

''We were misinformed by the board and management. If the figures were supplied correctly, there would have been a much earlier intervention," Hoop told soccernews.nl.

Mokotjo featured for the full 90 minutes as the Dutch club lost 1-0 at FC Utrecht to fall to 11th position in the Eredivisie. There has also been lots of speculation that Ajax Amsterdam could sell Thulani Serero in the next transfer window, but only because he is attracting interest from teams in bigger European leagues.

Serero has lost his starting place in the side in recent weeks, which could be a sign that coach Frank de Boer is already preparing for life without him in the next campaign. Serero came off the bench for Ajax as they were held 0-0 by lowly NAC Breda.

Lebogang Phiri started for Danish side Brondby as they slumped to a 1-0 home loss to Hobro, while Darren Keet again had to settle for a place on the bench at Kortrijk in Belgium.
