Most abused Premier League players and clubs on social media

Kick It Out results reveal that Mario Balotelli receives the most abuse and Chelsea the greatest volume of discriminatory messages on social media.

Both players and clubs in the Premier League receive discriminatory messages mainly based on based on race, gender or sexual orientation.

Every 2.6 minutes an abusive message is directed at a Premier League club or one of their players with a total of 134,400 posted on Twitter, Facebook, forums or blogs between August 2014 and March 2015.

Findings by anti-discrimination campaigners, Tempero and Brandwatch of discrimination online:

Players

- Mario Balotelli(Liverpool) received 8,000 discriminatory messages

- Danny Welbeck(Arsenal) received 1,700

- Daniel Sturridge(Liverpool) received 1,600

Clubs

- Chelsea received 20,000

- Liverpool 19,000

- Arsenal 12,000

- Manchester United 11,000

- City 11,000

Cities which generate the posts

- London 26,433

- Manchester 8,331

- Liverpool 6,792
