Khumalo condemns xenophobic attacks

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach and former Bafana Bafana star Doctor Khumalo has condemned the latest wave of xenophobic violence in South Africa.

Khumalo said the Premier Soccer League is an example of the skills and value that foreigners bring to the country.

“It’’s not something that we condone. And what is happening here in South Africa I don’’t think is something we condone as South Africans. We at Chiefs are people of ’’Love and Peace’’,” Khumalo said this week.

“And if there are any hiccups in terms of not understanding foreigners’’ situation in our country there are several ways to deal with them, but not to take lives. Taking someone’’s life does not solve any problems.

“We just have to understand that the government will deal with it. This matter is not in our hands. But I am feeling with the people there that clearly this is not something we want to see happening in SA.

“These are our brothers and sisters. If you reflect on history, these countries housed us and here we are having a democratic South Africa because of these African countries. So we have to solve the problem without taking any lives.”

SA’’s glamour team Chiefs are on the verge of a second league title in three years where foreign players such as Zimbabweans Knowledge Musona, Kingston Nkhatha and Willard Katsande have been instrumental.

PSL clubs are allowed five foreign players per team. The league has never stated any intention to launch a public anti- xenophobia campaign, in line with the high-profile anti-racism campaigns of Fifa and in leagues overseas.
