Athletics SA president Aleck Skhosana is playing his cards close to his chest as May 7 looms as the federation's potential Armageddon.

That is the scheduled date to auction off ASA property to pay R10-million to injured pole-vaulter Jan Blignaut.

Blignaut won a default judgment against ASA in 2013 after the federation - embroiled in infighting at the time - failed to defend the action in court.

He suffered head injuries after falling in competition in 2009. Skhosana was unable to confirm what items - in particular the ASA-owned house in Houghton - would come under the hammer.

"It will depend upon negotiations. Both parties are trying to agree on terms and conditions," he said in an e-mail.

He confirmed that ASA was also "in constant talks" with potential sponsors".

Even without the Blignaut case, ASA is struggling with a multimillion-rand debt that first started growing under the presidency of Leonard Chuene, who was ousted in late 2009.
