He may be on his way out of the club, but TP Mazembe coach Patrice Carteron says his players have enough quality to overcome Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.

They host the Pretoria side in the second-leg of their African Champions League second round tie in Lubumbashi.

Sundowns beat a 10-man TP Mazembe side 1-0 in the first leg, but failed to make their numerical advantage count and take the most slender of leads to arguably the toughest place on the African continent to eke out a result.

Carteron is strongly linked with a move to Tunisian side CS Sfaxien, but for now he said he was fully focused on getting the DR Congo club into the third round.

He added that the team must put their first leg disappointment behind them, when a late goal from Khama Billiat handed the South Africans an advantage after Kabaso Chongo was sent off in the first half in Pretoria.

"Obviously, it was a bad result for us, we lacked a bit of pace compared to Mamelodi Sundowns and to play for most of the match with 10 [players] was unfavourable," the Frenchman said. "Mamelodi Sundowns were more physical than I expected. But I have told the players to forget the defeat and look forward."

In home conditions, and with likely more support from the match officials, Carteron said his side had everything to play for.

"We have things we need to improve on in the second game, we had lots of counterattack chances that we did not use well," he said.

"The mood is still good in the camp, the players gave everything and I hope they will be rewarded."
