Amakhosi try to beat jet lag on Casablanca trip

Kaizer Chiefs face an arduous journey this week as they seek to keep alive their African Champions League hopes, flying for almost 18 hours before they get to Casablanca, where they will face Raja Casablanca.

Amakhosi leave tomorrow night, but fly eastwards first to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to catch a connecting flight that will take them to the northwestern tip of Africa and gets them into the Moroccan city at around 1pm local time on Thursday.

A likely weary Chiefs squad then plan a walk on the beach to stretch out their legs on Thursday before two opportunities to train before Sunday night's second leg of the second-round tie.

Chiefs will attempt to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Durban earlier this month.

Amakhosi head home on Monday afternoon and will arrive in Johannesburg on Tuesday just before midday.

They connect in Dubai with a three-hour layover in the early hours of the morning.

"We looked at all the flight options and this seemed the best to avoid the rhythm of the players' sleep being disturbed too much," coach Stuart Baxter said yesterday.

The arrival back on Tuesday is why Chiefs asked for, and have been granted, a 24-hour postponement of their planned Premier Soccer League match against AmaZulu. It has been moved from April 8 to the next day.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates play on Saturday in the African Confederation Cup as they defend a tenuous 2-1 lead over URA FC.

They will fly to Kampala on Thursday, play at 4pm on Saturday and then head home on Sunday.
