Ajax try out West African trio

Ajax Cape Town are using a series of friendly matches against neighbouring National First Division clubs over the next two weeks without any league and cup activity to trial three prospective imports from West Africa.

Former Ghana international Kofi Nti Boakye, 27, will spend two weeks with the club, hoping for the chance of a contract for next season.

Nigerians Idris Ahmed and Ehiz Guobadia are also in the Mother City in an effort to impress coach Roger de Sa and see if they are offered a deal.

Boakye is formerly from Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Lions and two years ago signed a three-year contract with Libya champions Al Ahli of Tripoli only to leave after just five months at the club.

Ahmed is a 22-year-old defender from Mighty Jets of Jos who has had a call-up for the Super Eagles but not played at a full international level.

Midfielder Guobadia claims to be 17 and previously tried out in Croatia.

Ajax's foreign contingent this season has not seen regular action, save for Finland-born goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola, meaning the club will be looking for better imports for the next season.
