Birds' Cohen to face England in Euro 2016

One week Larry Cohen is facing Bernard Parker at Dobsonville Stadium, and then the next he's looking forward to a clash with England's brightest prospect Harry Kane at Wembley Stadium in London.

He would never have predicted this. The Moroka Swallows defender has been called up to the Lithuanian national team ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifier against England on Friday at Wembley, a venue he has been to as a spectator a few times with his family.

Cohen, whose grandparents are from Lithuania, got his citizenship in December and just three months later looks set to make his first appearance for a team he admits to knowing very little about.

"Once I got my citizenship they picked it up in Lithuania. The FA got in touch with my agent and I got the call-up.

"I have been to Wembley three of four times before, when I was a kid and as an adult ..." Cohen said.

"I am looking forward to facing Harry Kane and guys like Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck."

Cohen trained with English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur three years ago when he was clubless. He got a chance to train with Kane, the in-form Spurs striker who has 19 league goals this season.

"I spent three months at Tottenham in 2012. I did not have a club at the time and I got a chance to train there through a connection I have in England. It was not a trial. I trained with Harry because he was in the reserve team."
