Myeni getting back to his best

Orlando Pirates midfielder Sifiso Myeni believes he is finally beginning to live up to the promise of his early playing days at Bidvest Wits.

The 26-year-old, who joined Pirates from Wits in 2012, has been criticised by supporters and former Bucs players for his failure to rediscover the sublime form that made him one of the country's brightest prospects more than three years ago.

But he is slowly reminding everyone how devastating he can be when given freedom to take players on with his pace and trickery.

He was man of the match in Pirates' 2-1 victory over Mpumalanga Black Aces in Orlando on Wednesday, a couple of weeks after claiming the same prize in the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs.

Working with caretaker coach Eric Tinkler, a man he knows very well from his days at Wits, is benefiting Myeni.

"I am getting there. I have had a lot of critics since I joined Pirates. I have grown as a player and the confidence I had when I joined Pirates is starting to come back. The only thing I need to do is keep my feet on the ground.

"The few weeks I have been getting the man of the match [award] have been good. I think I might even sell some of them," he laughed.

"The coach always encourages wingers to take on players. We can do the tsamayas [tricks], but it depends where I do them. If I do it in the right area it's no problem and there has to be an end product."

Tinkler, meanwhile, said Pirates had not signed Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Felipe Ovono, as was reported in the media.

Ovono is on trial and will get an opportunity to impress management in a friendly match next week.
