Draws are scant consolation for Stars

At some point, even an unbeaten run like the one put together by Free State Stars this year stops being flattering if they don't bag the full three points soon.

And a man quite conscious of this is the Ea Lla Koto coach Kinnah Phiri, whose side hosts another Premier League giant in Mamelodi Sundowns tomorrow night, just three days after holding Orlando Pirates to a 1-1 draw.

Phiri spoke highly of his men following yet another valuable point in their efforts to avoid being dragged into the relegation dogfight, but quickly pointed out that settling for draws, their fourth in a row, especially in their own backyard at the Charles Mopeli Stadium, might soon deflate their high spirits.

"We are not worried about facing another top team because we are fit, ready and we know how to prepare. The only thing we need now is a win. It's encouraging that we have gone through four games without a loss, but a win just takes us to the next level," Phiri said.

Stars showed fight and character in coming from a goal down to send Pirates back home with just a point, ending their winning streak ahead of the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow afternoon.

Phiri said title-chasing Sundowns could be in for a surprise in Phuthaditjhaba.

"We might find the win we are looking for against them because they might be vulnerable [after defeat to Bidvest Wits on Tuesday]," said Phiri.

Further welcome news for Phiri will be the suspension of Downs playmaker Teko Modise, who will miss his first league game for the Brazilians this season. Modise has been ever present, scoring five times in 20 matches so far in this campaign.

However, with the depth in the squad, coach Pitso Mosimane shouldn't find it too hard to replace the former Pirates skipper for a tricky away clash to Stars, who are 13th on the Premier League table.
