Itumeleng Khune should return to the Kaizer Chiefs training ground tomorrow after a collision with teammate Morgan Gould triggered fears of another long-term injury.

The goalkeeper was stretchered off in the second half of Saturday's Nedbank Cup first round clash against Edu Sports at Soccer City and, while TV pictures showed him covering his face in agony, Khune moved to allay fears that he was seriously hurt.

"Please don't worry, good people. It's a minor injury. I should train in our next session to get ready for the [CAF Champions League game] in Botswana," the keeper said on social media.

Attempting to clear the ball, Khune was struck unwittingly on the back by defender Gould, leaving him clutching his back. The keeper later posted a photo on social media which showed the marks of Gould's boot on his ribcage.

Yesterday, club spokesperson Vina Maphosa said Khune was treated at the stadium, and a scan revealed he was not badly injured.

"Following the collision with Gould, he complained about feeling dizzy. We took him to the medical room inside the stadium. The scan showed he has bruises, but we should get full results [today]. He should be back in training on Tuesday," Maphosa said.

Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter told reporters after his team's 4-0 win - thanks to a hat-trick by Siphelele Mthembu and a Katlego Mphela goal - had said the injury was not serious.

"He got a knee in his back. With back injuries it can be delicate but it doesn't seem serious. It seems very painful now but I think it will settle quite quickly," Baxter said. Saturday's match was only Khune's second start since he returned from a five-month absence due to injury, and it is likely he will be preferred in goal when Chiefs visit Township Rollers of Botswana.

Amakhosi take a precarious 2-1 advantage from the first leg to a match in Gaborone this Saturday.
