Arrows target lame AmaZulu

CONFIDENT: Shaun Bartlett
CONFIDENT: Shaun Bartlett

THERE have been many inconclusive and irrelevant KwaZulu-Natal derbies in the past, but with a last 16 Nedbank Cup spot at stake, there will be more than revenge on the table for Golden Arrows.

AmaZulu were not charitable towards them last year as they produced the decisive result that all but ended Arrows' participation in the elite league.

Arrows coach Shaun Bartlett feels his team may have the upper hand going into tonight's Nedbank Cup last 32 clash at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu.

"We've won our last four games and we've had two clean sheets, which is the kind of confidence you want to take into a cup match. It is a derby game and it is about the will and desire to win these type of games. My players have shown in the last four days that they want to win this game."

They still have some way to go in terms of cementing their promotion spot, but they can add insult to what is already a gaping wound for AmaZulu.

Such is AmaZulu's poor form they do not strike fear into any of their opponents as they have neither been able to score nor prevent goals coming their way.

While AmaZulu have lost the majority of their matches, they have been very competitive, especially at home, but being able to compete does not necessarily translate into positive results.

The importance of getting a good result against Arrows in the short and mid-term is not lost on AmaZulu coach Steve Barker.

"The cup competition offers a bit of relief from the league, and we are in need of a big performance just to be able to get some confidence back," Barker said.
