Phiri grabs chance at Brondby

YOUNG winger Lebogang Phiri has continued his good form in the Danish league this season as he helped Brondby to a 1-0 win over Silkeborg at the weekend.

Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has previously said that he was monitoring the progress of the 20-year-old, who ticks all those Vision 2022 boxes that Safa is so fond of.

And having worked his way back into the starting line-up at Brondby after a spell on the bench, the former Bidvest Wits junior is delivering on his early promise.

He scored a winner in a cup match last week, his first goal of the season, and was influential in Brondby's latest success that leaves them in fourth position in the league.

Another youngster, Kgosi Ntlhe, played for Peterborough United as they were dumped out of the English FA Cup by fellow League One side Colchester United.

It might have been so different for Posh had Aaron McLean converted a spot-kick but soon after his effort was saved, Colchester went up the other end and scored the winner.

It means Ntlhe misses out on the chance to pit himself against one of the giants of the English game in the third round in early January.

Kamohelo Mokotjo, who must still win back the favour of Mashaba, played for FC Twente in their 2-2 draw with Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch League.

Whatever his troubles at international level, Mokotjo continues to be a star in Holland and very highly regarded.

Anele Ngcongca was also in action for his Belgian side Genk as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Gent that leaves them sixth in the league, but just six points off Club Brugge.
