Celtic storm back into top eight

BLOEMFONTEIN Celtic moved back into the top eight after a 1-0 victory over Chippa United yesterday.

A Lerato Lamola goal with eight minutes remaining saved coach Ernst Middendorp's blushes. Celtic were in control of the match for the better part of the match, but failure to convert chances almost saw them sharing the spoils with Chippa.

Lamola was fortunate to have scored the winning goal as he would have most likely had to face Middendorp's wrath had the match ended goalless.

In a fairly entertaining game played in front of about 3 000 spectators, supporters of the home side watched in disbelief as good scoring chances were wasted.

Chippa were never really in the match and an occasional long distance shot was what they resorted to. At the beginning of the second half however, they nearly took the lead when David Zulu forced a good save from Patrick Tignyemb. It would be all Celtic after that.

One of their better chances of the match however came on the 50th minute, but Lamola shot over the bar.

He made amends on the 82nd minute when he headed in a Lyle Lakay set piece to hand his side all the three points.
