ALI Funeka has it in him to become world champion again - his people think, he thinks.

The question of whether he can win a world title again will be answered when he steps into the ring to face Roman Balaev for the vacant IBO welterweight belt at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg, tomorrow night.

Funeka told Sowetan yesterday his goal was to win IBO belts in the welterweight and in the junior-welterweight divisions.

''The title that I am fighting for is vacant and I already regard it as mine," Funeka said.

''I then want to challenge for the junior welterweight belt because it is also vacant. I know that I will win it too ..."

Funeka's fight against Balaev, the current WBA continental champion from Russia, will be staged by Golden Gloves.

A bout not to be missed tomorrow night is the cruiserweight 10-rounder between Johnny Muller and Kevin Lerena. No silverware will be at stake but sheer pride.

Heading the bill will be Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen, who promised to ''shoot to kill" Russian Denis Grachev for the vacant WBC international light heavyweight belt.

The tournament is live on SuperSport 7 from 7.30pm.
