Patosi happy to be playing again

IN RACE: Ayanda Patosi
IN RACE: Ayanda Patosi

AYANDA Patosi made his long-awaited comeback for Lokeren on Sunday when he was a half-time substitute in the 2-2 draw at Mouscron-Peruwelz.

It was the Bafana Bafana midfielder's first appearance for the side in almost six weeks and comes after a period in which he was criticised by his club for being overweight. He was also fined for skipping training when left out of the team for the last league game against Club Brugge.

But the 22-year-old will be hoping that is behind him now and that he can push on for a starting place in the coming weeks having laid on the assist for his side's second goal.

"We only got a point, so I'm disappointed but I'm especially happy to play again," Patosi told Sporza.

"The coach told me he will use me if I can prove I will work hard and I have shown him. I was disappointed in myself and he was disappointed in me, but I'm glad he has given me a chance.

"What's happened before is behind us, everybody makes mistakes. Now it's time to make everything right with the club. I'm looking forward to the next match."

Daylon Claasen is another player celebrating renewed confidence from his coach as he played his first 90 minutes for German Bundesliga II side 1860 Munich in their 2-1 loss to Eintracht Braunschweig.

It was a bad day in the office for Kamohelo Mokotjo, who saw his FC Twente side lose 2-1 at Excelsior Rotterdam to slip to eighth in the Eredivisie and without a win in three games.

Steven Pienaar came on late for Everton as they won 3-1 at Burnley to move into the top half of the English Premiership as they look to be over their customary slow start.

Lebogang Phiri played the final few minutes of Brondby's 0-0 draw with Esbjerg in Denmark, while Joel Untersee played for FC Vaduz in Switzerland as they were held 1-1 by Grasshoppers.
