KAIZER Chiefs' eight-match PSL winning run was brought to an end as Moroka Swallows held them to a 1-1 draw in last night's Soweto derby.

A banner was held by Chiefs' players to celebrate chairman Kaizer Motaung's 70th birthday, but former player Lucky Baloyi seemed intent on ruining the party with a 28th-minute strike for the Birds.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane earned Amakhosi a point with his fifth league goal in the 67th. Against a Swallows side reeling from coach Zeca Marques's resignation, Amakhosi played in patches.

Swallows' caretaker coach Fani Madida, having had just one training session after taking over from Marques this week, was counting on the Soweto derby factor to lift his players, and he was not disappointed.

lMark Gleeson writes from Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium that Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a second successive draw as Chippa United came back to hold them to a 1-1 draw.

Sundowns were slow in asserting their dominance but once they had established control took a deserved first-half lead through Cuthbert Malajila in the 29th minute.

But United did not wilt and launched a strong second-half comeback and were richly rewarded when Thami Sangweni equalised on the hour mark.

lMazola Molefe reports from Milpark Stadium that BidVest Wits allowed their home record to be tainted by relegation candidates Polokwane City when they suffered a shock 2-0 defeat.

l In other games, Bloemfontein Celtic beat University of Pretoria 2-1 at Tuks Stadium, while AmaZulu and Free State Stars played to a goalless draw.
