HAVING had almost no time to work with his side as Moroka Swallows head coach, Fani Madida is looking to the Soweto derby factor as a leveller for their Absa Premiership game against Kaizer Chiefs.

The two sides meet at FNB Stadium tonight at 7.30pm.

Madida is standing in as caretaker after Zeca Marques stood down as Birds coach following a fifth defeat in succession in all competitions on Saturday. They lost 2-3 to Black Aces at Dobsonville.

Madida took charge of his lone training session yesterday before the daunting task of facing a Chiefs side who have won 13 league and cup games in a row this season.

The former Amakhosi star knows Swallows traditionally lift themselves for the Soweto derby. "You couldn't ask for a better opening as a coach, because it's self-motivation for the team, and for me. Chiefs made me into the person I am today," Madida said.

Madida will look to experienced players like Lerato Chabangu and Siyabonga Nomvethe to steer the Birds through a torrid period.

Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter said: "It's been a great start. We feel pleased with the work we've done, certainly the points haul has been fantastic," he said.
