Boxing SA suspends Mosupa

THE Boxing South Africa board has quietly suspended chief financial officer Kgosimang Mosupa in the latest controversy to hit the troubled sports body.

An insider said Mosupa was suspended on Tuesday but it remained unclear as to why he had been removed from office.

Mosupa himself declined to shed light on his suspension when contacted yesterday and referred all queries to BSA.

BSA chairperson Ntambi Ravele confirmed the suspension but was also reluctant to go into much detail.

"It is a precautionary suspension," Ravele explained.

"But I can simply say that we picked up some challenges that affect the smooth running of the office."

Boxers have already felt the fallout from Mosupa's suspension as those who fought in the Eastern Cape this past weekend are yet to be paid.

A promoter, who asked not to be named, said BSA does not properly apply its mind before making major decisions. "The same happened when they suspended acting chief executive officer Loyiso Mtya [in July]," the promoter said. Another BSA administrator, Nomsa Mdluli, resigned a few days ago after she apparently succumbed to the increased pressure on the staff since Ravele was appointed chairperson by Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula in May.

Ravele laughed off the claims that she had been intimidating staff members and was the reason that morale was low at BSA.
