AmaZulu give coach Rosslee marching orders

AMAZULU have fired coach Craig Rosslee following two weeks of speculation about his future, the club confirmed yesterday.

"The Directors have agreed to relieve Craig Rosslee from the position of head coach with immediate effect. The decision was due to a poor run of form over the past couple of months," the club said in a statement.

Rosslee had been under pressure at the club, who forced him to be on the sidelines for Usuthu's Telkom Knockout tie at home to Bloemfontein Celtic a fortnight ago.

The club claimed then that he was being shifted "due to security concerns" as fans had apparently threatened his life after AmaZulu made a disastrous start to the season.

Rosslee was replaced by Wilfred Mugeyi on the bench, and his position became untenable after the assistant coach oversaw a courageous come-from-behind 3-2 win over Celtic, which was Usuthu's first of a tough season.

Rosslee had been at the helm of the club for two seasons. "Craig has been notified of the decision to terminate his contract and we wish him well with his future plans," AmaZulu general manager Peter O'Connor was quoted as saying in the statement.

It added Mugeyi would continue in the position, assisted by technical video analyst Ronnie Moroka, goalkeeper coach Graham Johnson and Japhet Zwane.

AmaZulu face Chippa United at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday, where they will be looking for their first Premiership win.

They are rooted at the bottom of the standings with three points from seven matches.
