FRESH from scoring his first goal in Mamelodi Sundowns colours, Themba Zwane says he's ready to cement a starting berth in the star-studded team.

Zwane scored his first Downs goal in their 3-0 win over Polokwane City last weekend, and generally put in a good display as Pitso Mosimane's team sauntered to their biggest win of the season.

It was due reward for a player whose performances while on loan at Black Aces last season drew plaudits, and even his captain Alje Schut singled him out as one player who had impressed.

"Mshishi" says he doesn't get carried away at the compliments.

"I appreciate all the compliments but I never let it get to my head. I just focus on my job and work hard towards improving my technique," he told the Sundowns website.

"There are a lot of talented players at Sundowns and in the country, so if you get a chance to be part of any team you have to be ready to grab the opportunity."

He faces tough competition for a midfield starting berth, with men such as Elias Pelembe, Teko Modise and Surprise Moriri all boasting tons of experience.

Zwane will hope to continue where he left off against City when Sundowns host the University of Pretoria in a Telkom Knockout tie on Saturday.
