Zulu backs Sikhakhane for top job

CHIPPA United striker David Zulu has backed caretaker coach Roger Sikhakhane to be given the coaching job after the club's recovery under his mentorship.

Sikhakhane has led the team to back-to-back victories over Moroka Swallows (2-0) and Orlando Pirates (1-0) since he was appointed stand-in coach in September after the resignation of Kosta Papic, who has since joined struggling Polokwane City.

United's communications manager Lukanyo Mzinzi confirmed yesterday that Sikhakhane was still the caretaker coach. "We are not going to rush things by appointing a new coach. We don't want to put pressure on Roger," Mzinzi said.

"Roger likes it when he is a caretaker coach because the title has pressure off his shoulders."

Zulu, who scored a beauty against pre-match favourites Pirates, said it would make sense to keep him as head coach after positive results.

"I think we have recovered under him, and I wish the management will give him the job. He knows the culture of the club because he coached the club before and most of the players understand his philosophy. I am really happy to play under him," he said.

Meanwhile, Zenande Mpengesi, the youngest son of United boss Siviwe "Chippa" Mpengesi, will be buried in Cape Town today.

He passed away on Saturday after he drowned in the family's swimming pool. He was 20 months old.
