Grace hoping to rekindle fine form at Championship

IT was the last of his victories in a historic 2012 season for Branden Grace, and this week he returns to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship ready to start winning again.

Grace is one of a long list of South African professionals who join celebrities and sports stars in the European Tour's glittering pro-am tournament on the three links courses of the Old Course in St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

His victory in 2012 capped an incredible season in which he won four times on the European Tour that year and set a few records in the process.

He will be the first to admit that things have gone a little quiet since then. But he heads to St Andrews with a feeling that his game is very close to where he wants it to be.

"My game is getting better and I feel it will click very soon again, and hopefully then I can get into the winner's circle again," said Grace.

"Everybody knows I had a stellar year in 2012 and that's hard to follow up. But there were still good performances in 2013 and 2014. Sure, 2014 hasn't been as good as I would've liked, but there's still a long way to go and it's nothing a big finish to the season can't put right."

For the past few years Grace has been working hard to make an impact in the US on the PGA Tour.

But he says he will shift his focus back to the European Tour until he feels ready to take on America again.

"I'm preparing now for the next few tournaments in Europe and my quest continues there. I feel a lot more comfortable in America than I did before."

The amateur contingent competing this week includes former Proteas cricket star Mark Boucher .
