PSL could impose huge fine on Pitso

PITSO Mosimane faces a possible hefty fine after the Premier Soccer League yesterday announced he would face a disciplinary hearing for controversial comments he made last month.

Following Mamelodi Sundowns' loss to Orlando Pirates in a Premiership game on August 27, Mosimane hinted at a conspiracy against his club after Pirates lodged a protest over the registration card of captain Alje Schut.

Mosimane asked "how Pirates came to know" about Schut's card, and it later emerged the league had issued the Dutchman with a card bearing the wrong year.

That, however, has not stopped the league's disciplinary committee from hauling Mosimane before it. He is scheduled to appear this Thursday on charges of "making improper statements and bringing the league into disrepute".

The problem for Mosimane is that he could be hit heavily in the pocket if found guilty as his latest indiscretion happened while he is still under a suspended sentence.

In May, the former Bafana coach was given a R60000 fine, suspended for a year, after he had accused a referee of being too emotional following Sundowns' exit from the Nedbank Cup at the hands of Ajax Cape Town.

"The referee could do better. He's a good referee but he's emotional, very emotional," Mosimane said at the time.

He and Sundowns were ordered to write a letter of apology and to pay the costs for the DC sitting.
