STEVE Komphela is going to try and take a leaf out of Kaizer Chiefs' book this week and keep his team under the radar despite the inevitable spotlight that will come with them being the next club in line attempting to end Amakhosi's winning streak.

Komphela takes his Maritzburg United side to Johannesburg on Saturday for a meeting with the runaway league leaders, whose success in the weekend's MTN8 final means they have now won 10 games in a row since the start of the season.

Maritzburg have a history of stopping a juggernaut in its tracks - they did so to champions Mamelodi Sundowns in May, on the last day of the season. Now Komphela is plotting to derail Chiefs, who have six league wins and four cup triumphs in a row since August.

Komphela says he was impressed with Chiefs' approach to the final, which they won 1-0 over Orlando Pirates in Durban.

"We saw last week that Pirates did all the talking before the cup final but Chiefs were very serious, very focused. They looked really switched on," said the Maritzburg coach.

"We are not yet at the level I'd like to see us at. We could still improve. We've had injuries to a lot of the youngsters we've brought in, which has denied them a chance for more game time."

Komphela thinks Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has gone back to basics after tinkering in the last campaign. "Chiefs are looking more like the side who won the league and cup double two seasons ago."

But that does not mean Komphela and his side will be overawed: "We are going to stay focused, do what we do and not talk too much. I can only hope that it is Chiefs who do all the talking this week and lose focus, although I doubt that."
