Sharks gear up to geld Bulls

ACTIONS speak louder than words, and through their selections, the Sharks want to blast the Blue Bulls to oblivion tomorrow afternoon.

Both sides need the bonus point win because they need to keep in touch with the Cheetahs.

Rory Duncan's side split the Sharks and the Bulls in fifth place on the log respectively, but they have the easiest fixture of the weekend against the Eastern Province Kings tomorrow afternoon in Port Elizabeth, where they should be banking on an easy five points.

The Bulls and the Sharks will most probably scupper each other's chances of making the semifinals with two points between them.

There is next week's Kings game that the Sharks can fall back on should they fail to get past the Bulls, but their task will get harder with Golden Lions and Western Province to come on successive weekends.

On paper, the Bulls' run-in looks a lot easier with the Cheetahs, Pumas and the Griquas to wrap up their season, but these are sides that have given Sharks headaches. The latter two have taken points off the Sharks, which makes the Bulls' semifinal task tougher.

While both sides have been offensively suspect, with a combined total of 28 tries from six games, the magnitude and what's at stake make for a tight fixture. With the selection of Sibusiso Sithole, Lwazi Mvovo and SP Marais as part of an Exocet back three, the Bulls' kicking game will have to be very accurate.

It's a try-starved back three that will relish the ball coming to them instead of having to look for it.

The inside backs are completed by Paul Jordaan, Andre Esterhuizen, Lionel Cronje and Conrad Hoffmann and how they use the ball will determine how much ball the outside backs get.

However, the Sharks arguably have the best pack in the tournament, and even though they are without Thomas du Toit, they still should possess too much fire power up front for the Bulls.
