Hunt tips Pirates as favourites

HIT AND MISS: Gavin Hunt
HIT AND MISS: Gavin Hunt

GAVIN Hunt would not stick his neck out for a winner in tomorrow night's MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, but it came as no surprise that the Bidvest Wits coach was open to the idea of the Buccaneers as favourites.

His side has lost to them three times already this season. Yesterday he spoke to Sowetan

What is the strength in the way Pirates play?

They have got the wining mentality and have done well in previous finals. Pirates can score goals and they haven't even used Lennox Bacela yet. They've got pace about them, and with Thandani Ntshumayelo fit, they will be very difficult to play against.

Who are the key players in Bucs' formation?

There are quite a few. For me, Oupa Manyisa is the best player in the country at the moment and when he links up with Ntshumayelo and Issa Sarr, who protect the Pirates back four, then that is where their strength lies.

What is the strength in the way Chiefs play?

Definitely their passing game and one-touch play. They are the form side at the moment and play clever, while Pirates play from deep.

Who are the key players in Amakhosi's formation?

There's no doubt about Reneilwe Letsholonyane's form right now. You also have to bring Willard Katsande into the picture and their combination just works. My concern though, is that Yeye has to play on the same line.

Based on all those factors, who will win?

That's difficult to predict, but I think the game will go to extra-time. It all hinges on team selection - does Stuart Baxter go with Tshabalala or George Maluleka. I think Chiefs also have to play Mandla Masango and George Lebese. If Chiefs get their selection wrong, then Kermit Erasmus will punish that defence.
