Gardner Seale former Kaizer Chiefs defender shares his opinion about the much-vaunted Soweto derby with Mcelwa Nchabeleng

Kaizer Chiefs

IT has been a while since I predicted a winner in a soccer match, but today I put my head on the block for Kaizer Chiefs to triumph on Saturday.

They will beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 and lift the MNT8 trophy in Durban.

But I find it difficult to predict who will score because almost everybody can score at Chiefs.

This is their strength.

Chiefs started the season on a high and this is largely down to teamwork and sheer commitment at the team.

The players want to win cups this season after a trophy-less 2013-2014 season.

A plus for Chiefs is they have a very clever coach in Stuart Baxter.

Baxter is not just a coach, but a motivator and father figure.

Chiefs' success is not due to luck, but through blood, sweat and tears and Pirates will need more to overcome Chiefs, which is highly unlikely, though.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Mandla Masango and George Lebese will be there to help Chiefs lift the trophy.

They have the gumption to do that.

Letsholonyane is deadly in front of goal and is effective in the midfield.

The trio's other strengths, apart from scoring, is their ability to read the game and their positioning off the ball.

Chiefs also have a good player in Willard Katsande in the midfield.

Katsande is intimidating with his hard tackling and whoever will be assigned to him will need to have poise and grit.

An added advantage for Chiefs at the back is that they have rangy centre backs and that gives them an aerial advantage.

They will easily deal with the likes of Kermit Erasmus and Lehlohonolo Majoro.

Baxter must start with [Molomowandau] Mathoho and Tefu Mashamaite as centre backs and Tsepo Masilela and Siboniso Gaxa at fullback.

I have heard a lot of people saying Chiefs will miss Itumeleng Khune as if there is a goalkeeping crisis at Chiefs.

Chiefs have other talented, yet underrated goalkeepers in Brilliant Khuzwayo and Reyaad Pieterse.

But Khune's leadership as captain will be missed on the day.

Chiefs should learn to recover quickly after conceding.

I'm warning Chiefs not to give Erasmus and Majoro any room to manoeuvre because they could be punished.

Majoro has a bone to pick with his former club.
