ANDILE Jali's stellar form continued just days after a starring role for Bafana Bafana as he helped unfashionable Oostende up to third in the Belgian league at the weekend.

A 5-3 away win over Standard Liege was a major shock and one of the biggest results in the club's history as the tiny seaside outfit, promoted just two seasons ago, begin to shake up Belgian football.

They are just two points behind leaders and champions Anderlecht.

Jali, who was man of the match last Wednesday when South Africa drew with Nigeria, has been an ever- present force for the club this season and the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad said of his performance: "He is emerging as one of the best midfielders in the league."

Jali did show signs of fatigue after a difficult fortnight in which he had to travel to Sudan and Cape Town, and it came as no surprise that he was taken off with 15 minutes to go.

Dean Furman and Tokelo Rantie were among the Bafana squad members not used by their clubs after arriving back exhausted from the two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

But Anele Ngcongca played the full 90 minutes for Racing Genk as they drew at home and Darren Keet conceded three goals as his club Kortrijk slipped close to the relegation zone after losing to Lokeren.

Thulani Serero and May Mahlangu - the two surprise omissions from Shakes Mashaba's squad - both played the full 90 minutes.

Serero's Ajax Amsterdam were 2-1 winners at home over Heracles Almelo and Mahlangu's IFK Goteborg drew 0-0 with IF Elfsborg away. Siyanda Xulu made his first start of the season for FC Rostov in Russia but his side were beaten at home by Rubin Kazan.

There was also a brief debut for Andrew Surman, the Johannesburg-born England under-21 international who has joined Rantie at Bournemouth, in the 1-1 home draw with Rotherham.
