PROMOTER Jeff Ellis will take the unusual step of selling an upcoming tournament by taking boxers on a road show this weekend.

Ellis will take boxers Hekkie Budler, Ryno Liebenberg, Kevin Lerena, Malcolm Klassen, Ashley Dlamini and Duran Ray to mingle with the public at Southgate mall on Saturday.

Ellis is trying to drum up support from the public for boxers while also attempting to popularise the sport, which has lost support.

"This is the first of the many road shows that we will do," said Ellis yesterday. "We want to make boxers known by the public. There will also be a skipping rope competition and five winners will walk away with double tickets for Golden Gloves' box-and-dine tournament, which will take place at Emperors Palace on September 29."

Lerena will host Gogita Gorgiladze from Tblisi, Georgia, for the vacant WBC Youth junior heavyweight title, while Klassen will meet Justin Savi from Benin in a non-title 10-rounder in the junior lightweight class.

Dlamini and Sydney Maluleka will also be in action over eight rounds in the junior lightweight division, while Ray will make his debut against Onke Duku in the welterweight class over four rounds.

The day will also be used as a farewell for Budler and Liebenberg, who will be involved in big fights in Monaco on October 25, added Ellis.

Budler will defend his IBO and WBA strawweight belts against Chinese Xiong Zhao Zhong, while Liebenberg will defend his WBC Silver light heavyweight title against Eleider Alavarez.
