Boxing SA slow to pay fighters

BOXING SA stands accused of double standards.

Promoter Luvuyo Mngxaso is angry because BSA has cancelled tournaments because the board wants promoters to deposit boxers' purse money within a specified time.

"Yet they cannot pay fighters in time," said a livid Mngxaso yesterday. "They are playing double standards.

"Boxers who fought in my tournament at Bisho Stadium two weekends ago have not been paid. My phone has never stopped ringing. The boxers think that I did not deposit their purses with BSA.

"I understand their frustration. It is just a pity I could not pay them directly due to the regulations."

BSA chairperson Ntambi Ravele said: "The fact is documents from our manager in the Eastern Cape [Phakamile Jacobs] arrived late on Thursday last week."

She said a board meeting also held up the process.

"We understand the frustration from boxers and we apologise for the delay."
