Goal drought a worry for Wits coach Hunt

GAVIN Hunt has goals on his mind and, more specifically, where his side's next goal is going to come from as they face a difficult league match against Maritzburg United at the Bidvest Stadium tonight.

Wits have netted twice in four games this season.

"I think we could have played here until tomorrow and not scored," he said after Sunday's MTN8 defeat to Orlando Pirates. "The ball just wasn't bouncing for us. But you just have to pick up the pieces and go again. We have only scored one goal in four games, which is a problem."

New signings Henrico Botes and Chris Katongo, with a combined age 65, have started so far this season but the temptation for Hunt must be to go back to Sthembiso Ngcobo, who served them so well in the second half of last season.

They have yet to see the best of skipper Sibusiso Vilakazi, a regular contributor in the last campaign.

Maritzburg followed up their opening match draw with champions Mamelodi Sundowns with a 2-1 victory over Polokwane City in what has been a bright start to the season under coach Steve Komphela. They are a young squad, but well held together by a coach who is excellent at making the most of limited resources.

Wits have won three of the last four meetings between the sides, though Maritzburg won this fixture 1-0 in May.

The Team of Choice will be without suspended forward Mohau Mokate, who scored and was then sent off against Polokwane.

Free State Stars are still searching for their first points under new coach Tom Saintfiet as they welcome SuperSport United to the Charles Mopeli Stadium in a game that will kick off at 6pm.
