Zambian invasion for Banyana

Banyana Banyana are set to travel to Zambia to face the women's national team, after the neighbours were unable to make the scheduled trip to the country for a friendly.

Banyana need the preparation match against stronger opposition ahead of African Women's Championships (AWC) in October.

Initially the match was due to be played in Limpopo at Makwarele Stadium near Vhembe this weekend, with details of the new venue in Zambia still to be announced.

Banyana coach Vera Pauw was pleased to have secured a fixture against a top-tier team.

"We are happy we can play a stronger nation as this will help us to test our strength ahead of the Championships," said Pauw.

"It is unfortunate that Zambia could not travel to South Africa, but thanks to the support we receive from Safa and our sponsor Sasol for making sure that we are able to still play the match."

The top three finishers at the AWC will gain entry to the Fifa Women's World Cup scheduled for Canada in June next year.
