Manyisa dismisses Sundowns link

OUPA "Ace" Manyisa has laughed off speculation that he was on his way to big spenders Mamelodi Sundowns, and vowed to stay put at Orlando Pirates.

Speaking after winning Pirates' Player of the Season award on Wednesday, and R100000 cash, Manyisa said he would not play for any other club in South Africa, but Bucs.

Manyisa also won the Players' Player of the Season award (R50000) and shared the Chairman's award, with goalie Senzo Meyiwa (they received R50000 each).

The duo played a record 51 of the 53 games played by Pirates last season.

"Nothing is happening. I'm not going anywhere," said Manyisa.

"I still have a one year left on my contract. I'm at home here [at Pirates]. If I have to go, it will have to be overseas.

"I don't see myself playing for another team in this country. Sundowns have never approached me. I only read about it in the media, that's off-season speculation."

On being named player of the season, Manyisa said: "It's a great honour, I want to thank my teammates for their support.

"To our supporters, we will make you happy in the new season."

Manyisa was highly commended by Irvin Khoza, who said the Mohlakeng star was one of the hard-working players with a lot of stamina.

"Oupa has been the only player to consistently cover 13km per game.

"We know such distances are covered by players like Iniesta and Xavi [of Barcelona)]."

In other categories, defender Thabo Matlaba walked away with the online Player of the Season award, which is voted for by the supporters. He received R50000 and R30000 for the Goal of the Season award.

Meyiwa was presented with a R30000 cheque for the Golden Glove award, while Lennox Bacela got the same amount, as the winner of the golden boot.
