Chilli Boyz upset after Ajax extend Akpabio contract

TOP National First Division marksman George Akpabio has had his contract renewed by Ajax Cape Town, to the chagrin of Chippa United, where he has been on loan this season and netted 11 key goals.

The Nigerian striker is the second top scorer in the NFD behind David Zulu of Black Leopards as the Chilli Boyz have already secured top place and promotion back to the top flight.

Akpabio was at the end of his three-year deal and hoping to join United on a permanent basis and with better terms for their coming season back in the Premier Soccer League.

But the Urban Warriors have a clause that allows them to activate a further season if they so desire and based on his goals this season, they have decided to take it up.

It means if United now want him for the new campaign, they will have to buy him

Ajax signed Akpabio midway through the 2011-2012 season but he proved a disappointment and after just six months was sent out on loan to Vasco da Gama for the 2012-2013 season.

Akpabio was also in a rich vein of scoring form in 2012-2013 and was set to go back to Ajax this season, but then coach Muhsin Ertugral had a change of mind and he was loaned to United instead.
