Mokotjo vs Serero in final

TWO Bafana Bafana players go head-to-head in a boost for South African football on Sunday when Thulani Serero's Ajax Amsterdam take on PEC Zwolle, with Kamohelo Mokotjo at the heart of their midfield, in the Dutch Cup final.

Serero's highly polished outfit are seeking to achieve the league and cup double in the Netherlands, but it is a fairy-tale first appearance in a cup final for the provincial Zwolle, with limited top-flight experience.

Ajax sit on the brink of a clean sweep as they are overwhelming favourites for the final and need only one point from their last two league matches to win a fourth successive championship.

It is only the second season back in the top flight of Dutch football for PEC.

Mokotjo, a product of SuperSport United, joined PEC on a free transfer from Feyenoord at the start of the season and has been a huge hit, commanding a midfield holding role. So influential was he that the club put off a knee operation he needs to mend a meniscus until there was a gap in their fixture list where his absence would have little effect.

Mokotjo could be given the task of keeping an eye on the silky Serero, who is expected to start for Ajax.

Serero scored with a dazzling piece of ball control for Ajax in the league last Sunday.

The final will be played in Rotterdam. Kickoff is at 6pm SA time.
