Asec expect to be better travellers against Chiefs

KAIZER Chiefs' weekend opponents Asec Mimosas needed a scolding from the deputy chairman of the club at half time to salvage a point in their last match before they travel to Johannesburg this week.

The tongue lashing from Francis Ouegnin got Asec going in the second half of their weekend league game against AFAD as they took a 2-0 lead.

But they then lost concentration and were back at 2-2, went 3-2 ahead again but gave up a stoppage-time equaliser.

It was a missed opportunity for Asec to move closer to league leaders Sewe Sport, who were also held to a draw. Asec stay four points behind.

They now prepare to travel to South Africa where they meet Chiefs in the first leg of their African Confederation Cup fourth round tie at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

Coach Siaka Traore was quoted in the Ivorian media as saying they would do better on the road than at home in the second leg, which will be in Abidjan on April 27.

"Our opponent is no stranger so it gives us a better chance for the match in South Africa, which is much more important than the second leg to set us up so we can ensure qualification when we play in Abidjan," said Traore.

"I'm confident because my players will do better away. Our qualification depends on how we perform in the first leg. I think Kaizer Chiefs are a very good challenge for us."
